We are pleased that you have chosen to visit our community, which is located in the heartland of Kentucky. Elizabethtown is a hub for several major roads including Interstate 65, U.S. 31W, U.S. 62, Wendell Ford-Western Kentucky Parkway and the Martha Layne Collins-Bluegrass Parkway.
Our population is approximately 28,531 and we take pride in both the history and future of our community. The City maintains a community center and numerous parks including Freeman Lake Park with a beautiful lake, picnic facilities, paddle boats, fishing, walking trails with wonderful views. Elizabethtown Sports Park which is a 150 acre sports complex is scheduled to open summer of 2012. A Veteran's Tribute is being constructed at the Elizabethtown Nature Park. The City is also planning a new tennis complex. Abundant housing in a variety of settings is available for singles, couples and families. Medical and professional services of every type are available within the city, including a 300+ bed regional hospital. Several different shopping areas, including small shops, large department stores, "super stores", and a fully enclosed mall are all within the city limits. A strong industrial base exists with 76 industries located within the city. Many people visit Elizabethtown to see Civil War Sites in the area as well as the Swope's Cars of Yesteryear Museum, the Hardin County History Museum, the Brown-Pusey House, Historic State Theater, Lincoln Heritage House, Sarah Bush Johnston Lincoln Memorial Cabin and the One-Room Schoolhouse. Education is a highly valued aspect of life in our community. Elizabethtown Independent Schools and the Hardin County School System each offer top quality learning programs. Elizabethtown Community & Technical College provides accessible and affordable education and training. Western Kentucky University has an extended campus located at ECTC offering bachelors and masters degrees. Elizabethtown is surrounded by many attractions. We are within forty miles of Mammoth Cave National Park, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace, My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Fort Knox and the Gold Vault, Patton Museum, Churchill Downs and numerous cultural and athletic activity centers.
